Discharging Ear

Common causes for a persistent discharge from the ear are;

otitis externa- alhtough this only causes slight discharge and is rare in younger children

infection following previous mastoid surgery

In all of these cases ear drops (or a spray) is recommended to treat the discharge (sometimes with the addition of antibiotics by mouth) You should seek a further assessment by a specialist if the cause is not known or the problem is not settling.
